The Last Dog Days of Summer

I started teaching a figure drawing workshop this summer through the Brooklyn Loft run by Freddie Chavda. I originally found out about the Brooklyn Loft after a woman I was dating took me to a class there last winter. I hadn’t done any live figure drawing in years at that point and I haven’t taught anything since my early twenties, it’s been a lesson in rediscovery.
In trying to design a working curriculum and teaching materials I found myself going through all the old notes from Stephen Gaffney’s class at SVA and now understanding his method of teaching completely differently. It could be that I finally have fully formed brain cells now but now I feel all the information more than just understand and I have so much to add to it that my thoughts trip over my tongue when I try to get the correct words out to explain myself.
When I was at SVA and for the first couple of years after school, I started using the line of action website to keep up with my figure drawing habit but eventually I just fell off the artistic wagon. Every now again for years I’d find myself trying to pick the habit back up to inevitably stop but currently its been an essential tool for me to practice using my methods and to understand the process as a whole better.
